CHINK-TOWN

Buongiorno from Cinque Terre!

"Chink-town" is made up of 5 small towns separated by mountains. Since we haven't hiked enough this trip, we decided to hike from one town to the next. The first trail, also known as the lover's path (obviously perfect for us), was from Riomaggiore to Manarola - child's play.

After completing that in record time we proceeded to Corniglia, the third town of Chink. 589 steps later we made it to the town on the hilltop and rewarded ourselves with the largest pizza we could find - and devoured it also in record time. Three towns behind us we began our trek to Vernazza. This trail tranformed our minds, as well as our physiques. Every 5 minutes we stopped because we didn't think the view could get any better, 5 minutes later we were proven wrong. We think it goes without saying we have a lot of pictures.

We made it to Vernazza and once again felt the need to reward ourselves - this time strawberry gelato.

Last but not least, the forbidden trail.

.

This trail was closed for safety reasons. But for those of ya'll that know our middle names: Emily "DANGER" Amari and Jordan "ADRENALINE" Florence... you should know we spit on that sign and trekked on by without a second thought. It is common knowledge in Chink that this section of the trail is by far the hardest. While on this journey, we finally understood the words of Miley Cyrus:

"There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be a uphill battle
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose

Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb"

Word on the street was the last leg of the trail, what we refer to as the "Trail of Tears", takes two hours. But like modern day Paul Bunyons we finished it in 1 hour and 15 minutes...HOORA!!

That night, in an attempt to get the best view of the sunset, we began climbing on the death defying jetty. It was at that time, Emily was momentarily defeated. Being the trusting Southern girl she is, she fell prey to the slippery rocks. We contemplated rushing her to the ER, but luckily Jodi is a nurse and prescribed a little TLC and a cane. We ended the night with new friends swapping travel stories on the rocky beach of Riomaggiore with a bonfire ablazin'. Good Times.

Ciao for now!
